Happy Engagement-aversary to us!

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, we’re still trying to figure out the balance of work/new house/friends/not letting our house become a mess/everyday life and keeping up with a blog. We’ll figure it out sometime soon.

For now, I’ll leave you with a little celebration post of our Engagement-aversary! One year ago, JB asked me to marry him, and I couldn’t be happier with my yes. So much has changed in this year, and I am overwhelmed with how the Lord has orchestrated the people and experiences he’s given me here in Mississippi so far.

Now, for the engagement story 🙂

We decided to get married after our second date (you can read the details in the section titled “Our Story”), so I obviously knew it was coming. Even though he had told me he bought my ring, and I had already picked out a date and purchased my dress (yup), I was still a bundle of nerves, trying to figure out how he would ask me. I had my suspicions, and created some elaborate plans in my head, but it seemed that I would just have to wait in suspense.

In the midst of lying about where he would be, and my friend Becca inviting me over for a girl’s night in Tyler, they got me to the steps of my cabin I had in 2007 at Sky Ranch, where JB and I first met.  Becca is a full-time employee at Sky, and said she just had to check on a retreat group, so I really didn’t think anything of it. We drove up in the golf cart and out pops JB! I remember feeling so shocked, he’s supposed to be in Mississippi, how did he get here? It took JB a few minutes of coaxing me up the steps and to help me close my mouth and get my brain working again.

As you can see, all was happy and there was a resounding YES from me. The next 3 or so months were a whirlwind of wedding planning and long distance premarital counseling and books to try to get us ready for the big mystery of marriage.

I really can’t believe it’s been a year.

((special thanks to Becca Jordan for taking our pictures and helping to make this whole thing happen. Seriously, she is like the engagement fairy. I think she’s had a part in 5 surprise engagements now?? professional))
